REMEDIES.

I am not going to lie to you right now. it's not looking great for you. rabies has an approximately 100% mortality rate, which means that it is NOT looking great for you.

you can treat rabies in one of two ways!

  1. PROTECTING YOURSELF FIRST (vaccinations and carefulness around wild animals)
  2. the Milwaukee Protocol.

now you may be asking, "okay, cool, but what does that mean????" and that is an amazing question! here's what you can do:

protecting yourself first:

it should be no shock to hear that the best way to not contract rabies is to be careful. as a child you may get a rabies vaccine if you are considered "high risk" for catching said disease. these vaccines can last from 6 months to a year depending on the circumstance and how your body reacts to it. more importantly, you need to be careful around wild animals. if you encounter an animal in the wild, do not approach it. do not try to touch it. do not try to make love to it. do not do anything with it. dont come into it's house and beg for forgiveness. do not. dothat.

wild animals are wild after all, and you can get alot more than rabies from touching or provoking wild animals. they are filthy and dirty and you have no idea where they couldve been. the number one way to not get rabies is to mind your business!

the Milwaukee Protocol.:

[THE MILWAUKEE PROTOCOL HAS PROVED TO BE INNEFECTIVE DESPITE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AT AGGRESSIVE THERAPY, THE INFORMATION BELOW IS PURELY IN THEORY AND IS NOT TO BE USED IN PRACTICE]

here is where things get more complicated.

let's say that you did provoke a wild animal. let's say that you disturbed them. hurt them. and they only acted in self defense, as any rational animal or being would do in retaliation to being hurt in such a way, such a way that can never be forgiven, no matter how many tears are shed. and let's say, for the sake of explanation, this wild animal has rabies. you therefore contract rabies, and after 3 days to a week, you start to show symptoms. this is not good. there is one thing that you can do, although it is a long and tedious and expensive and sort of horrible process.

the milwaukee protocol consists of a few steps.

  1. PATIENT IS PUT INTO A MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA.
  2. PATIENT UNDERGOES ANTIVIRAL THERAPY.
  3. PATIENT UNDERGOES CEREBRAL VASOSPASM MANAGEMENT [THINNING OF THE BLOOD VESSELS THAT REACH THE BRAIN].
  4. PATIENT IS WOKEN FROM THE COMA ONCE DEEMED WELL ENOUGH.
  5. PATIENT UNDERGOES MUSCLE AND MEMORY THERAPY, DUE TO SIDE EFFECTS OF BEING IN A COMA FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.

i will now go into each of these steps in concerning detail.

STEP ONE.

after a patient begins to show symptoms, regular treatments such as vaccinations or antibiotics [there is not a known antibiotic for rabies] will not work. the patient will be put under a medically induced coma, giving the body time to recover without the virus spreading, and giving doctors time to see where to move on with the treatment. this does have it's side effects though. the patient may be put into a coma for weeks or a month depending on how severe the case is. your body may come out of the coma with muscle problems and memory loss.

STEP TWO.

once the patient is in a coma, the doctors can begin the Real treatment. using antiviral drugs such as ribavirin and interferon-alpha will help eradicate the virus that is in your system along with your immune system. the drugs will be given over a 3 week period, depending on how much you need and how badly the virus has spread.

STEP THREE.

if rabies reaches your brain, you die. it's as simple as that. although the virus itself resides in the salivary glands and spinal cord, in order to get to the brain, the virus will travel through main blood vessels that lead to the brain. if the virus has reached a point where it will get to your brain, the doctors will put you through a process called cerebral vasospasm management, meaning, the blood vessels reaching your brain will shrink to the point that it keeps your brain circulated, but incredibly slowly. you're just being kept alive, basically. barely living, but alive nonetheless.

STEP FOUR.

this one is pretty simple. you wake up from the coma if your body has recovered from step three and the rabies has been eradicated.

STEP FIVE.

if the treatment described above goes according to plan, you should have been in a coma for at least a month. your muscles will be weaker than before, you will lose fine motor skills, including speech patterns and usage of your hands and feet. this can be incredibly dehabilitating and you will need to go to physical therapy for such a thing. you may also have acute memory loss, which you can also go to therapy for. all of these side effects of the coma can be very hard to deal with and some people are wheelchair bound after undergoing such a procedure. the milwaukee protocol is rigorous on the body and takes it's toll, and should not be implemented in any further plans to treat the rabies virus.

rabies is a very serious virus. only 14 people worldwide have survived rabies after showing symptoms. they survived because of the milwaukee protocol, but too many people have died because of the same treatment for it to be a viable treatment option anymore. do not provoke wild animals and do not think you can recover from rabies, because you cannot.
